Dante - Arkham (M19)

Preferred style: Swordmaster
  1. The battle starts with Arkham dropping onto the ground from air. Attack him with your melee weapons. Jump when he attempts to swipe an arm at you.

  2. After he receives a number of hits, he will turn gold (and later on red), then release 'spikes' that kind of trails after you. Double jump away from them.

  3. Steps 1 and 2 will repeat until he disappears into the ground shortly after.

  4. Now his so-called Legions will appear, lots of them. It could have been way annoying, but thanks to many people's reminders I now remember to use Kalina Ann against them. Just keep doing this: shoot + jump + (after landing) shoot + jump ...etc

  5. Another possible method is to use Nevan’s Jam Session. It takes out a number of Legions pretty quickly and earns you good style points as well. Downside is, it is quite hard to control, so there may be a risk of you getting countered if you make a mistake. When pressing left on the left analog, it has to be Dante’s left, but it's really common to mess it up.

  6. A&R can also be helpful. Its wide ranged attacks can help push the Legions back while inflicting damage. However, it’s not entirely reliable since you’re facing way too many enemies at once and all it takes is for one of them to hit you.

Note: The Legions turn red when they attack, so keep away from the red ones.

  7. After some time, regardless whether you finished off the Legions, Arkham will reappear so go back to him and repeat steps 1 and 2. Any remaining legions will attempt to hinder you, so you may want to finish them off first.

  8. After finishing half of Arkham’s life, you’ll get into the second part of the battle. This time you’ll have your kick-ass brother fight together with you. How cool is that?! Unfortunately, in return for Vergil’s assistance, Dante’s use of DT and the Circle button (for Style) are disabled. The Circle button is now used to call Vergil to your side, which you probably won't find useful for the most part.

  9. You start this second part of the battle a little distance away from Arkham, so start shooting as you approach him. Vergil follows your lead so if you run, he runs as well, but make as much use of him as possible now that you’ve lost your DT. If you’d even just shoot, Vergil will attack (mostly Rapid Slash). Attacking Arkham follows the same strategy above as in steps 1, 2 and 3.

This time when dealing with Arkham's spike attack, remember to double jump away continuously until he's really done with it, since he shoots 3 times more spikes than before.

  10. When back to the Legions, repeat steps 4, 5 and or 7.

  11. Arkham's last form of attack would be as written below under Hard mode. He does this even in Normal mode but less often and dramatic. For more information please read below.

   [Hard mode]
The only difference in hard mode is during the second part of the battle against Arkham, not his Legions.
  1. This time he will perform a move whereby he grabs you with an arm and squeezes the life out of you. This move damages a lot and the only way to save yourself is to call Vergil to your side using the Circle button and accurately hitting Arkham’s arm to release you. However, if he hasn't started sucking your life, jump and you should be able to escape.

  2. However, pressing Circle once does not mean Vergil will appear right next to Dante. You’ll have to control Vergil and keep pressing Circle until he’s at the right position to hit Arkham’s arm to release Dante. It’s really hard, in my opinion, to control this so my suggestion is to NOT even get close to Arkham.

  3. Instead of attacking him with melee weapons, what I recommend is to keep shooting at him with Spiral and Kalina Ann from a decent distance where Kalina Ann's rocket launcher can hit him. Switch back and forth between the guns and it'll deal pretty decent damage while you keep yourself safe. (Refer to video demonstration v.2 above)

   [Dante Must Die mode]
This mode includes everything in Normal and Hard mode, plus a few more changes written below:
  1. In the first half of the battle when you attack Arkham, he will shoot the usual spikes at you, but at 2 separate times. The first time is just one spike, the second typically three.

  2. In the second half of the battle with Vergil, Arkham will very often shoot his spikes. This time, he will do it for about 3~5 separate times, and each time he does there'll be about 4~6 spikes so keep double jumping away until you've dodged them all.

  3. ALWAYS keep a distance from Arkham. Staying anywhere close to him is DANGER. If he turns red, that means in the next half second he will shoot spikes at you, and if you stand close to him, the impact will damage you. Also, if you're close enough, Arkham may also try to smack you with his arms so bottomline, stay far away!

  4. For safety sake, don't bother slashing Arkham in the second half of the battle. Just shoot, and from afar. As long as you keep shooting, Vergil will do the slashing for you so you'll still be inflictng not too bad of a damage. The only time it's safe for you to slash is when you see him disappearing into the ground.
