Nero - Berial (M2)

Assuming that most of you have played the demo first, our resident Fire Hell Demon shouldn’t pose too much a threat:

Human / Devil Hunter modes

  1. The easiest part of Berial to hit is his face, so snatch yourself over with R1 + forward + O and slash away with Nero’s Aerial Combo.

  2. Berial is huge and is the perfect ‘stepping ground’ for jump-canceling, but assuming that you haven’t unlocked the ability ‘Enemy Step’ yet (because it’s so expensive), you can’t jump-cancel his face to keep your position there, yet.

So, the alternate way is to abuse snatching instead. If you’re falling back to the ground, perform snatch at his face again to keep yourself there.

  3. Of course, Berial will try to attack you as you slash away at his face, so before he swings his sword (he is pretty slow so it should be easy but at the same time it could mess up your timing), try to land on the ground so that you can jump away from his attack. If you already have Air-Hike, you could easily do the second jump before he hits you, and you can remain in mid-air.

  4. Another way to stay offensive while playing safe is to attack Berial not on his face but the back of his head. Sometimes, snatching does not always land you on the same spot, and it is likely that there are times you snatch and land behind his head (snatching from behind him will land you there).

Use that chance to go crazy. You are likely to be safe from Berial’s attack for a couple of seconds until he does a 360 degrees turn-around attack, which you can jump away from, or try your luck with another snatch for you to quickly change your mid-air position.

  5. After damaging Berial enough, his flames will vanish. If you’re not right by his face, quickly position yourself there. If you must snatch yourself there, snatch from the front, not the back. Slash away with Aerial Combo for a couple of times (3~5 seconds) and then perform Devil Bringer (DB) with the O button AT HIS FACE.

Performing DB at his face will result in a more drastic DB attack that damages more. If you press O while on the ground, he will do a different DB attack that damages less.

  6. After performing DB, Berial will collapse on the ground and stay vulnerable for a few more seconds. Use this time to get in as many attacks as possible until he gets up, which is time for you to run away from him to avoid his upcoming blast attack. If you feel that Nero is too slow, try keep jumping towards the screen.

  7. After taking down half of Berial’s life, he will start performing additional attacks. One is a charge attack (long distance), which you can avoid by doing a well-timed side roll (R1 + left or right + X).

  8. Another move is one where he looks like he’s punching the ground. This move summons pillars of flames that emerge from the ground (where have we not seen that before?); run away continually to avoid. Be careful though, as Berial is likely to do a 360-degree swing attack at the same time, which you’d need to jump away from as you run from the fire pillars.

Sons of Sparda / Dante Must Die modes

DMD Berial might have killed me half a dozen times on my first try, but I've now realized a freakin' easy cheapo way to beat him without taking any damage at all. Trust me, even 3 year olds can do this.

  1. Basically, DO NOT play offensive! Just walk/run around charging up Blue Rose to Charged Shot LV3 and keep a good distance away from Berial at all times. Once Charged Shot is ready, release, rinse and repeat.

  2. Berial's attacks are easy to avoid - just keep him locked on and side roll carefully each time he attacks. Make sure to continue charging up your gun and release the moment Nero's arm turns red.

  3. Do that enough times (yeah, anywhere from 10-15 times) and Berial's flames will go off. Immediately DT, run up to him and perform Buster (press O) at his face. After that, you can slash a few times + Buster again to send him flying to the other side so that you don't even have to bother running away from his explosion. Then, if you still have DT, do Maximum Bet for extra damage. Otherwise, Charged Shot?

  4. Repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 to victory.
