Pissed off rant: Typical Slam Dunk yaoi fangirls
It’s interesting. Say if there were 1000 people in this world, how many of them would happen to be interested in anime/manga? Out of those who are interested, how many of them would be interested in the same genre as you, in this case namely yaoi? Out of those who are interested in yaoi, how many of them share similar tastes as you? And out of those who share similar tastes, how many of them share/understand the same perspectives and favorite pairings as you?
This has seriously been getting to me the past few days, after having shared my Slam Dunk fanfic on livejournal with several readers, 95% of which commented the same, typical and expected answer when I asked them the question “What do you think of the other two pairings?” (Sakuragi x Miyagi and Hasegawa x Mitsui) Each time I read that answer my body bursts in flames, my nerves popping everywhere. I had to vent this out somewhere, even if all you readers don’t understand a word I’m saying, or better yet, quit right after this paragraph. This is still where I’ve decided to rant.
First off, let’s just say it’s BLOODY annoying that 99% of fangirls would never take a second look at Miyagi simply becos’ according to their typical standards, he’s considered ugleh. Fail. Euw. Yuck. Who wants him?! Well screw you. And for that reason, none of them would ever even want to think of pairing anyone with him, cos’ it’s unacceptable and is a turn off in their opinion. They don’t care if that pairing makes sense. They don’t give a shit if they even have any sort of official hint in the actual series. All they care is that, “He fails in the looks department and he ain’t going out with mah favorite character, in fact, anyone for that matter.” So what do I think? I think Miyagi’s an AWESOME character who’s underappreciated cos’ most girls are unfortunately too shallow for their own good.
Next, Sakuragi. He’s an idiot all right, but that doesn’t give him any reason to be a full-time uke (bottom)!! Like WTF really?? That’s just such typical fangirl perspective!! I don’t see what part of him doesn’t reek of “shameless but shy for a fact” guy, which is who he really is! That’s how truly shy (yet shameless at the same time) he behaves towards the girl (Haruko) he likes in the series, so why can’t he be the same if the one he likes happens to be a guy?? Shy doesn’t automatically mean “You’re going DOWN” you know?? Like who the hell made this distinction that all males/tops in this world have to be the aggressive type while the females/bottoms play the shy/soft/passive role? That’s like what… Are you a freaking century behind!?
Next! Mitsui. The total opposite of Sakuragi – just why MUST he be a full-time seme (top)!? Cos’ he’s 184cm tall? Cos’ he’s got that cool manly short hair?? Cos’ he’s got a good built and everyone’s favorite partner for him can’t get any uke’er (bottom’er)??! Kogure is not a bad character, but he’s not an awesome character either! Those two might have some bit of history in the past but like dude, that’s so totally unexciting!! So like who do I personally pair him up with?? I like Hasegawa from Shoyo. His entire existence in the series itself is created entirely and solely for Mitsui’s character development during the Shohoku vs Shoyo match. He may not be Rukawa pretty or Sendou charming but if you ask me he’s 10x better than Kogure. Hasegawa is a minor character, yes, I AM aware of that. Most people including myself back then don’t even remember him, I know. But to fully deny/reject the possibility/sensibility of this pairing and to insist that coming up with this pairing itself is wrong just cos’ you think Mitsui is 100% seme material (which I SO disagree with) and that Kogure is ‘cuter’ for him? That’s just BS.
And this is all just from Slam Dunk. You haven’t even heard me rant about other standard typical boring but ‘well-accepted’ preferences such as Sasuke x Naruto (Naruto as bottom), Ichigo as uke (from Bleach), Zoro as seme (from One Piece), etc. It’s not like I can’t see/accept them cos’ I do (I just prefer others) but I won’t reject them a 100% like these fangirls reject mine! It’s SOO annoying and bloody disappointing to hear a fellow fangirl go “Sakuragi x Miyagi?? OMG!! NO WAAAYYY!!” instead of simply going “Eh, I can see why you pair them together but I’m not really fond of them.” Seriously, can’t anyone try to give it some understanding before you blatantly blacklist it in MY face??! |

First of all, let me announce that I’m *GASP* opened my own LiveJournal account!! Well to be honest I created that account a few months ago but I just never did anything with it. But since I’m on my quest to pimp my 天才的な fanfic to the world I had no choice but to give LJ a try and hey… it seems to be working! =D Nyaahahaha!
Yesterday…
I went out with two of the KOF girls at Bugis where I’m determined to take photos of the remaining food with unavailable pics on my food blog page. =P Two guy friends joined us mid-way and we sat at MOS Burger eating and talking about random things, most of it “King of Fighter Maximum Impact Regulation A” and “Street Fighter IV” related. LOL
It was fun. I love talking/listening to detailed stories/scenarios/ battles/ techniques about those two games. I like being a geek XD Later in the night after eating dinner and all we went back to the arcade again as usual to watch even more Street Fighter IV. I know, it seems like we never get tired of it. Personally, I find it really fun to watch, especially with the pretty graphics. ^_^ I may not play the game but I still love watching it, especially since SF4 forces players to challenge one another and challenges are so much fun to watch. XD

After watching SF4 for god knows how long we also stopped by the KOFMIRA machines. No one’s really playing it so instead of watching I ended up watching the machine next to it, which is Virtua Fighter 5. Oh maaann!! I LOOOVE Goh!! (The left one below) And Brad!! XD!!! They’re sooo cool and yummeh!! *Heart eyes!!* I’m so itching to rape Goh~~! He has such kissable lips, OMG!! @_@! But yeah… sadly I dunno the first thing about them >_>;

And yeah… where there’re KOF girls, there’re purikura, remember? ^^;

Today…
I went to Marina Square to meet with a friend for lunch at Waraku. Hehehe… Food blog time…? XD After that we just walked around the mall looking at random shops… and gaahhh! Somehow I ended up shopping for a bag (which I don’t really need), cos’ it’s pretty, and it’s GOLD! XD!! I’m such a sucker for gold/bronze items recently and I don’t know why! @_@ Sigh… this is now officially my most expensive handbag. >_<;

And oh, guess what I saw at the main hall of Marina Square? =P An Xbox exhibition with a stage and all with participants/contestants playing Rock Band. XD!! But for some reason every team was playing the same song over and over – Message in a Bottle. Maybe it’s a competition after all, but dude… I think they played on medium difficulty. That’s so boring LOL |

REAL (A manga series by Inoue Takehiko)
I finished reading REAL a few days ago (there're only 7 volumes so far) and I gotta say, it’s a good series, as expected from Inoue Takehiko sensei. ^_^!! It’s different from Slam Dunk in the sense that it focuses a lot more on character development and their psychological side rather than on the technical side of the sport. This greatly separates REAL from Slam Dunk, hence giving readers a chance to look at the sport from a fresh and different aspect.

Unlike Slam Dunk, REAL has few characters. The main characters are just three boys who pretty much have equal weight in role, with every volume of the manga focusing on one of them. This series is targeted towards seinen (young adult and above) so it’s not whacky and comical like Slam Dunk but still it retains its own sense of humor, which makes it a very enjoyable read.
» Anyone who’s interested should definitely check it out here. «
So now, it’s a bit of introduction time~ But beware, there will be some spoilers, obviously.
Nomiya Tomomi 野宮朋美
18 years old, Nomiya is the first of the three to be introduced to the series. He had quit basketball club in school for some reason and eventually quit school itself after getting into a bike accident and rendering a girl (Natsumi) he picked up half-paralyzed. He didn't suffer any severe injuries but the guilt from ruining Natsumi's life haunted him. Then, He first met Togawa (see below) when he happened to pass by an indoor basketball court while taking Natsumi out for a walk on a wheelchair. Eventually the two became friends, and though Nomiya can’t exactly play (wheelchair) basketball with him, he is always there to root for/help him, respecting him as a person and sportsman and looking up to him as a source of aspiration in life. He also nicknames him “Vince” which comes from Vince Carter, an NBA player. (Oh, he also likes to follow the hairstyles of famous NBA players, hence the original afro LOL)
Togawa Kiyoharu 戸川清春
19 years old and no longer going to school, Togawa is a competitive wheelchair basketball player who quit his team due to an internal conflict. After knowing Nomiya and encountering another wheelchair basketball player whom he lost to in a street game (for cash), he rejoined his team in his goal to improve himself. Togawa is missing his right leg, which was amputated due to bone cancer when he was 13. Formerly a competitive sprinter, he was devastated to face the fact that he can no longer run. He shut himself away for a while until he happened to meet a man by the name Tora in the hospital one day. It was Tora who introduced to him the world of wheelchair basketball that’s when Togawa found the will in him to resume his life as a sportsman.
Takahashi Hisanobu 高橋久信
17 years old, Takahashi is from the same school/basketball club as Nomiya. He is mean, egoistic and arrogant. He constantly looks down on those of lower social status than him (not that he’s very high himself) and mentally categorizes people into different ranks, him being rank A and someone as Nomiya rank E (he is so not in good terms with Nomiya). Unfortunately, his life turned a hundred eighty degrees when he decided to steal a bicycle and got chased by the owner, ending up on the road and getting hit by a truck. The accident permanently rendered his bottom half paralyzed, which traumatized him badly, almost making him suicidal for he now thinks that he’s fallen even below rank E. As of the latest volume, he is still currently undergoing rehabilitation although he practically seems to have lost his motivation to ‘recover’.
There are some other characters but I won’t touch them since I just wanted to introduce the main-most characters. It’s really a great series and I can’t wait to read the next volume when it’s out sometime this year. Any Slam Dunk should really give this a try. Have faith in Inoue Takehiko. ^_^ He’s our god. |

Old Outramians Gathering + KOF girl gang outing
Yesterday was fun. From morning to noon, there was an Old Outramians gathering at my secondary school (Outram Secondary School) and so I went there to visit for the first time in seven years. T__T!! I met with two friends at Outram MRT (train station) first and then we walked there along the usual/old route to school. Man, it would have been 10 years since I walked along those roads since my family moved out of Outram when I was thirteen. It was so nostalgic!! T__T (Click here to check out the old rainbow-colored HDB flats)

We walked past Pearl Bank, our family’s old residence, and I got really curious as to how it looks like now inside… And then we passed by my primary school… which has been demolished years ago (Sigh…) and for some reason replaced by some sort of hotel?! The annoying part is that it still looks similar in architecture to my school and that just makes it feel so awkward! =/

Anyway, we soon arrived at Outram Secondary School and phew… at least the outside still looks the same, most of it that is. But damn… the inside has been decorated like mad it’s like an art school or something! There’re paintings, pictures, photos and graffiti all over pretty much every wall that if I hadn’t ask anyone, I’d have assumed that there’re a ton of students in this school. (But the truth is there’re fewer students each year cos’ the number of youngsters living around the central business district area is small (why though huh?), according to the teacher I asked)

Anyway, we then joined the ‘gathering’ with the others who’ve arrived only to find how few people showed up. T__T Poor thing… Well okay, I gotta admit it’s our fault for arriving late but still that’s really sad. Doesn’t anyone miss their childhood/teenage hood at all?? Ggrr… Well, I guess I should be glad that at least there’re five of us from my batch who showed up at all. >_<;
After hanging around the gathering room for about an hour or so, we decided it’s time to look around the school (which is a must!). Our first stop is the teacher’s room, which I hardly ever step into even back in my secondary school days. And then we proceed to the canteen which is closed of course since it was Saturday, but damn I don’t remember seeing TVs there! What luxury! =_=;

Oh yeah, there’re two spiral staircases in our school (which were quite famous I think? I forgot why though). One’s by the canteen, the other by the classrooms (west/east wing? XD) My batch was the first to move into the new Outram Secondary School after it was rebuilt in 1998 so the school was entirely new and clean, which means no drawings / graffiti / pictures on the walls either. But this time, man, like I said before they have almost every wall covered with anything possible. Check out the difference between the yellow-wall by the spiral staircase below with this one from when I was 16.

Anyway, after that we checked out the swimming pool which was locked before we hopped on to the classrooms. The classrooms weren’t any different from before, but they’re all locked so we can’t go in for a rampage. XD I’d love to play with the blackboard and chalks but alas, our school uses whiteboards. Ahahaha!

Next, we were going to check out the library but for some reason we didn’t. Instead, we just took a picture by the stairs to the AVA theatre. You can compare that pic to this one my class took during our graduation year. XD
Lastly, we checked out this fish pond in between the two blocks of classrooms. I dunno when they built it but that sure is a nice addition. The fishies are fun to play with cos’ they’d think your hand is food and suck on it. LOL. Wish we had that back in our year.

And so that was it for the gathering. XD We didn’t exactly do much but it was fun to check out the school and meet some of the teachers I recognize. Most of the teachers I remember have left, and some simply weren’t there that day, but at the very least I met one who sort of remembers me. LOL

Part II. After the gathering, I went to Bugis to meet with my KOF girl friends. I know, I never get tired of Bugis. XD This time, I went and bought the banana crepe just to take a picture of it to add to my Favorite Food blog page. XD But damn, for some reason the vanilla ice cream they used wasn’t as nice as it was before… =( It felt more like ‘ice’ then ‘ice cream’. That was disappointing. If it continues to stay that way, I may have to stick to only the crepe store at Liang court, cos’ I know they will definitely be authentic there considering Liang court’s high reputation for Japanese food.

I also ate my favorite tiramisu and oreo donut from J.CO (inside PastaMania cos’ my friends are eating there)! Kyaaa~~!! So awesome!! *Cries in happy tears* Somehow though, this time I actually prefer the oreo donut from the tiramisu. I’m thinking it’s becos’ the tiramisu has extra cream inside it while the oreo one doesn’t, which makes it less overly-sweet. And oh, I also had some takoyaki~! ^o^

For the most part, we spent the day sitting down eating and talking. LOL. What an awesome combination, me likes. XD It’s only after dinner did we go back to the arcade to watch people play Tekken 6 and Street Fighter 4 for an hour plus or so. Yeah, I find it fun to watch people play certain games. For me, that’d include King of Fighters, Street Fighter and Tekken. (Although of the three games I only play KOF)
For Street Fighter 4, everyone seems to be abusing Abel and Ryu (and some Blanka) that it actually got repetitive after a while, especially with Abel cos’ he seems to have just one basic combo that does enough damage for anything. =_=; And then there was one dude who use El Fuorte or something (a new character) but he didn’t last too long. >_>; I was hoping to see them switch characters every once in a while but oh well…
Lastly, where there’s a KOF girl gang outing... there’s always cam whoring… =P So tadaahh~~!!

Oh oh oh!!! Just one last thing!! Apparently there were a few stranger guys at Bugis who noticed my jersey and actually said "Oh, Sakuragi Hanamichi!", which I sadly didn't hear with my own ears but my friend told me she heard it. XD!! Wahahahaha!! Nyaaayy!! Slam Dunk jersey show off, success!!! Except, they got it wrong. My number's Rukawa Kaede LOL. |

First off, I’ve got to announce that I’ve officially finished my bloody Slam Dunk fanfic!!! I’ve prepared it in three languages, and the story’s 70 pages long on Microsoft word. Personally I love how it turned out and I’m feeling very proud. XD For anyone interested, you can read it here:
Slam Dunk yaoi fanfic - Senru No Monogatari (Sendou x Rukawa)
I haven’t finished reading the manga series actually, cos’ I’ve just finished volume 29 which leaves me with just two more volumes. Hopefully I can finish reading it by tonight. ^_^ But hey, I actually peeked at REAL volume 1 for a bit and read 3 chapters! Mwahahaha! So far it’s good! ^_^ But I don’t even have to check it out to know why it’s not as popular among the Slam Dunk fangirls – most Slam Dunk fangirls are standard fangirls who will only look at the standard pretty boys (and apparently having just one of those kind of boys so isn't enough). I’m so sick of that kind of never changing preference. It’s so teenage girl-like. Urgh.
Anyway, yesterday I went out with my family for a bit. I call it the Singapore Flyer ‘outing’. =P What’s the Singapore Flyer? It’s basically one of Singapore’s biggest tourist attractions, which is practically a glorified Ferris wheel. The highest point of the flyer is said to be 165 meters (541+ feet) and the point of it I guess is to have a bird’s eye view of Singapore’s downtown and other places around it (some of which are still under construction, like the casino area).

This is the first time me and my parents have ridden on it, but then again it’s really just a Ferris wheel, so I wasn’t like all super excited or anything. It was more of like giving it one try and that’s good enough for life. Well okay, maybe after the casino’s done in 2010, I miiight just be curious to see how it looks like again. But for the price of $30 per adult? Er… Maybe I’ll wait till I get a free ride from someone again somehow. =P Oh, if anyone had been on the flyer during the time of the Formula1 event, they could have been able to view the whole stretch of the starting/finishing line. =P

Anyway, after the flyer, we went to Lao Ba Sa to have dinner. YumMm~! ^_^! I forgot to take a photo of the satay but man I love the mutton ones!! ^_^! It’s times like this when I can’t control how much I should be eating. >_<;; But it’s so niiicee…. T__T!!

Oh wait, I forgot to mention that before we went to the Singapore Flyer I went to Chang Jiang in Chinatown to visit my long-time hairdresser whom I've not seen for 5 years! >_<! So glad she's still there! The last time I cut (and rebonded) my hair I did it at another salon but next time, I'm definitely going back to her. ^_^ After that, I also visited the comic store lady whom I've bought Street Fighter comics from since I was 11. XD!! She's hardly changed in looks over the past 12 years it's impressive! @_@

Next, on a random change of topic, in 2 hours I’d be going for an interview with the slimming center people. =P It’s an interview to see if they’d want me on their TV advertisement/promotion show to talk about my success and stuff. If I do end up getting selected, I’d get like a $2500 voucher (for their treatments of course, not cash). Wahahaha! Luckily, since they won’t show my face on TV (just my back) it makes things a lot easier/comfortable for me to consider it. Hehehe. So we’ll see how it goes eh! XD To be honest I don’t exactly care if I don’t get selected, cos’ that’s less trouble for me (LOL) and going for this interview alone gets me a $300 voucher. XDXDXD! Now you see why? =P
And on a last random note, lookie what I’ve got here (only Slam Dunk fans need to see). XD!! |
