Random game rant: Resident Evil 6 Chris Campaign Chap 5 Veteran

I was playing Chris's campaign on Veteran with a friend online one night but we stopped at chapter 4 due to lack of time. The next time I wanted to continue he told me he's went and finished chapter 5 by himself, so I'd have to clear it by myself. Not a problem, really, it's just lonelier to do it alone. But there was something I needed to do in chapter 5, I needed to find the last 4 serpent emblems to complete my total of 80. Those were the last four and an online guide states that only Chris can access some of them, so I went ahead and selected Chris for chapter 5 on Veteran, only to realize/recall after the game loaded that I had not actually used Chris before in my game, so he is equipped only with his default handgun, machinegun, combat knife and one hand grenade. O_o I wasn't sure if I could beat bloody Haos with just this, and on Veteran, but for some reason I felt compelled to do it and so I didn't quit the game and decided to take on the silly challenge.
Level 0 Chris started with no healing items or herbs and had very little reserve ammo but the enemies posed no threat until I got into the room with a dozen or so collectors that mutate into fishmen and longarms (sorry I dunno thei real names >_>;). The next room after that with more mutating J'avo, Napads and Gnezdos also killed me once cos' I was too insistent on taking them down when I clearly lacked ammo/grenades. Eventually I survived it by avoiding the annoying and ammo consuming ones altogether. LOL.

Next, it's the elevator room with Jake and Sherry. I decided not to care who to take the elevator with and Jake decided to join me. XD AI Jake was able to take care of most of the enemies that land on our elevator platform, but the snipers annoyed me. I wasted quite some handgun ammo trying to kill them from a distance but to no avail. Ended up dead once too, argh.

Next, the Haos chase. I managed not to die here, and the next in the tunnels. But the flooded room after that worried me. I made sure to break all the crates and pick up everything I could find but it was annoying the fact that half of them were skill points. I need bloody ammo godammit! Still, surprisingly, I was able to take him down using ammo very sparingly (very conscious of accuracy so as not to waste ammo) in under a minute starting from the first bullet I fired at it. By the end of that battle, I was left with one full clip of machinegun ammo with 14 reserve, and one full clip of handgun ammo with 6 reserve. Great, I had to fight the final Haos in the next room with that…. O___o….

Thankfully, there were a few more crates in the final room. After breaking them all, I had about 40 reserve machinegun ammo and 14 or so for handgun (numbers based off raw memory here). I'm playing single player so Piers is AI and I must say, AI Piers sucks BIG time bawls. He was absolutely useless and did nothing to contribute even with the command to “move in”. I had such limited ammo I refused to shoot for as long as I didn't have a clear line of fire at Haos' weak spots (bubbles) with him looking away. I died twice here, both by Haos' long-reach tentacles which I didn't expect was that long. So after that last death, I decided to play super cowardice and it worked like a charm keeping myself alive. AI piers might be useless but at the very least he seemed to never enter dying mode so phew... The only problem then was, just how was I to burst its bubbles 6 times (2 bubbles per cocoon transformation) with my amount of limited ammo? I really didn't know if it was even enough to do it at all. I had thought that worse comes to worst, I'd have to use the knife… oh god.
And so I shot ridiculously sparingly, and with a TON of patience, playing cat and mouse round and around the blocks/platforms and keeping my distance. I managed to burst 3 bubbles with all my handgun ammo and the 6th bubble with about 20 machinegun ammo left but this is where I almost raged. Haos turned into a cocoon for the 3rd time and all that's left to do was for Piers to electrify it + me stab it. BUT, dear ol' Piers was for some reason MIA and by the time I found him lying on the floor, our good friend Haos had hatched AGAIN…. which means I'd have to burst its bubbles two more times…!@#$%^!! I had to bite my lip to refrain from screaming at my beloved Piers (ultimate Piers fangirl here!!) all the time wondering how the hell half a clip of ammo is enough for this.

Damn fortunately, it was as if AI Piers was sorry for screwing it up earlier so this time miraculously he managed to burst one of the bubbles, which left me with just one to take care of, which I did. ZOMG, I DID IT!! I was so happy I immediately let go of my controller to announce my success to a friend, and when I looked back at the screen I was surprised to find myself in dying mode. @_@ I was like “WTF happened? I got hit? Since when??” and like an idiot, I struggled with the controls wondering if I could shoot or struggle to get up, but no. At the moment I couldn't recall what I was supposed to do so after much confusion, I died. LOL. I panicked immediately thinking I had to redo the whole battle but THANK god it resumed from the 'cutscene'. I was still lost, for some reason I couldn't recall what another friend once did with Chris when we played together so I just went with instinct and crawled over to Haos and wuzzah! SO GLAD it's OVER. The rest after that is not worth mentioning.
Not at all the most impressive feat whatsoever, but it was my biggest (optional) RE6 challenge so far (Mercenaries aside), which I stupidly took on for no good reason. >_>; Surprisingly I managed to get an A for accuracy, time and kills, and a B for deaths. Man…. I'm never fuckin' doing this again...! x_X *Drops controller and glomps body pillow thinking of Piers*
End result – 80/80 emblems obtained + rank A for chapter + end of frustration + sense of stupid achievement. |
