Trickster
The guide actually recommends Swordmaster but I find its reasoning disagreeable hence I decide to write my own recommendation instead. For beginners, Trickster would be the way to go for this battle. Vergil is one offensive fighter and you'll need to do a lot of evading, and Trickster's Sky Star should make it easy. For intermediate and above players, I recommend Royalguard after some practice. This way you can turn Vergil's attack to your advantage.

To get to Vergil in time, you'll need moves that close-in on distance like Stinger or Straight. It's easy to start off your combos with these moves before you connect them with others. Also, distance does not matter to Vergil as he can easily teleport towards you, so for fire arms it's recommended that you use the handguns or shotgun since you can still move around as you shoot.

Counter his Judgment Cut!
Move around to avoid Vergil's Judgment Cut. Vergil is vulnerable as he recovers from the attack so take that chance to attack. Approach him him as you evade Judgment Cut and close in with Stinger before you continue with your combos! |

Evade his combos and find your chance to attack!
Chances of taking in Vergil's entire combo the moment you get hit by the first attack is high. However, since Vergil is certain to finish his combo sequence, it is possible to create an opening if you can evade his first hit. Even then, it is dangerous to get close before he finishes so it's recommended that you attack after he's done. |

Attack as Vergil deactivates D.T!
When Vergil is in super demon form, it is likely to get wound into his chain of attacks if you aren't careful enough. However, there is a long period of vulnerability when Vergil turns back into human form. Be SURE to attack while you can! |

Show him the power of Just Blocks!
Vergil's attacks are severely intense but if you can get the timing right it isn't too hard to evade. To bring it up a notch, you can try Royalguard's 'Block' and block Vergil's move perfectly at the right time. Doing it correctly may prove to be even more effective than swordmaster (as the guide, not me, recommends). |

Hard
& Dante Must Die mode
In DMD mode, Vergil is capable of performing Stinger from mid distance anytime. Moreover, he will call upon Summoned Swords once his health is down to 73%, inflicting heavy damage. |
